FDA Announces New Program to Support the U.S. Food Supply

The Human Foods program will combine the agency’s food safety teams.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that James Jones will be the first deputy commissioner for their new Human Foods program.

The FDA has received negative feedback for its lack of resources for food safety protocol. One of the examples was when contamination at a large infant formula plant last year caused a massive shortage of infant formula, a crucial resource for new families and healthcare facilities.

To address this lack of oversight and accountability, FDA Commissioner Robert Califf began an agency-wide organizational overhaul, combining food safety teams into one human foods program.

“Our proposed reorganization is the largest undertaking of its kind in recent history for our agency,” Commissioner Califf stated. “I’m confident that under [James Jones’] leadership, we will build a stronger organization that will be integrated with other components of the FDA and focused on keeping the foods we regulate safe and nutritious, while ensuring the agency remains on the cutting edge of the latest advancements in food science and nutrition.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Commissioner Jones as he fills his role in the new Human Foods program.
  • For wisdom for Commissioner Califf as he heads the Food and Drug Administration.
  • For FDA officials as they focus on food safety and illness prevention.
